Blind School Music Performance – Project Ahimsa
Monday was full of incredibly rich and humbling experiences. It began with a prayer at the Gandhi Ashram, and an introduction of Global Lingo to the entire community. Payal and Ganesh, among the star performers on Global Lingo, performed for all of us at the Ashram. Jagatbhai accompanied on tabla and I played clay pot…it was the ultimate live version of what I had heard on the original Let Them Sing. Simply amazing. We then all embarked on a 45 minute dusty truck ride out to the Blind School, which Project Ahimsa has been supporting for the past 5 years with musical instruments. It was once again a supremely inspiring visit, this time in a brand new building created especially for these incredible youngsters, who are all blind and come from poor families. All of the children will graduate from this school with a high school diploma, and many will go to college. Each day begins with music classes led by Tejasbhai, who passionately believes in the power of music and creativity, especially for the blind. THe concert was simply mesmerizing. The entire school performed classical devotional songs and Bollywood film songs for us, on instruments Project Ahimsa donated over the years. Check out the pictures…
