BOLLYWOOD AND THE MUGHALS: MUGHAL-E-AZAM AND JODHAA AKBAR @ LACMA OCTOBER 5, 2015

LACMA’s South Asian Department and the South Asian Council are pleased to present a multi-media lecture focused on the portrayal of Mughal culture in the Bollywood epic films Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and Jodhaa Akbar (2008). Lecturer, performer and Fulbright scholar Robin Sukhadia will present clips from both films to contextualize Mughal history, aesthetics, and their importance to India’s post-colonial narrative. Special emphasis will be placed on each film’s music composers, Naushad and A. R. Rahman. The 45 minute lecture will be followed by a special live musical performance by SADUBAS (with Clinton Patterson) inspired by the music of both films. The evening’s free and kid friendly. Dancing encouraged!
