Robin Sukhadia returns to 3rd I to lead an examination of Mughal e Azaam, considered by many to be the Greatest Bollywood Movie Ever Made. The 1960 film introduced color to Indian cinemagoers, launched the careers of Madhubala and Dilip Kumar, and featured a gorgeous score composed by Naushad. Robin’s lecture will present clips from the film with a special emphasis on the film’s music and the influence of Mughal culture on the aesthetics of Bollywood film. The lecture is being presented as part of 3rd i’s Music and Dance programming at this year’s festival. He will be joined by special guest and bollywood expert Manoj Shailendra.

Robin Sukhadia is a Bollywood music fanatic. He earned an MFA in World Music/Tabla from The California Institute of the Arts in 2007, and recently returned from a Fulbright assignment in India. He is a tabla disciple of Maestro Swapan Chaudhuri. Learn more at www.tablapusher.com.
